The John Glenn Civic Leadership Council seeks to promote, broaden, and cultivate civic engagement and leadership among college students. Focused on four distinct pillars: Policy and Leadership, Community Engagement, Academics, and Social, the John Glenn Civic Leadership Council provides an enriching environment to encourage active citizenship on campus and in the community. Our broad variety of programming ranges from in-depth policy discussion to unique service projects, fostering academic support and lifelong friendships along the way. Membership is open to all students, regardless of one’s undergraduate area of study.
Policy and Leadership
Informed policy decision-making and skilled leaders are vital to a successful democracy. The John Glenn Civic Leadership Council seeks to advance these skills by providing:
- Substantive policy discussions and debates
- Policy discussions with faculty members and guest speakers from the nonprofit and public sectors
- Educational Trips to major cities
- Annual teambuilding and leadership retreats
- Class sessions on leadership, civic engagement, and public policy issues
Community Service
Service to the community is the backbone of American ideals. As members of the John Glenn Civic Leadership Council, students will have the opportunity to become involved in the community by participating in a variety of service projects including:
- Community Commitment
- MLK Day of Service
- Tutoring children in local schools
- Volunteering at a local retirement center
Academics
Along with public service and public policy, the John Glenn Civic Leadership Council provides academic support and enrichment to its members. This is done through access to the state-of-the-art facilities of Page Hall, access to Glenn School faculty and staff, and guest lecturers from various areas of expertise.
Membership
The John Glenn Civic Leadership Council places great emphasis on fostering lifelong ties and relationships through a variety of social events throughout the year. Our members will have the opportunity to participate in peer-mentoring groups, group cookouts, ice skating, movie nights, and a winter retreat.
