John Glenn Scholars - Social Capital Scholars
David Landsbergen, Associate Professor of Public Policy & Management and Angela Stuber, Executive Director of the Ohio Community Computing Network
The goal of this research project was to develop some kind of formal organization or network to support the many organizations that are dealing with technical illiteracy and reduced access to computers and the Internet. At the same time, Landsbergen and Stuber looked at models for how other metropolitan efforts organized their efforts with the hope that Central Ohio could learn and adapt some useful ideas. Landsbergen and Stuber found in their work with community organizations that there is a very real need for this effort and the organizations they met with are very supportive of the long-term goal. In their scan of networks across the country, they found that many other metropolitan areas around the country have the kind of network association proposed.
Scholarship Produced:- During the upcoming year, Landsbergen and Stuber will write several research reports that are intended to educate and inform the larger Central Ohio community of the problems and the opportunities in investing in computer literacy and access for the larger community. These reports will be the basis for writing conference papers and research papers.
