John Glenn Scholars - Scholars in Service-Learning
With support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the John Glenn School of Public Affairs established the John Glenn Scholars in Service-Learning. This project aimed to continue the leadership and visibility established by the National Commission on Service-Learning and thus, to sustain the work of Learning In Deed. The project also aimed to support stabilization of research, practice, policy, advocacy, and resource development for service-learning by enhancing visibility and building leadership within each of those areas. Products of this project included: Scholars in Service-Learning recognition; scholar papers; advisories; and Glenn speeches, videos, op-eds, and other writings or appearances.
From 2004 through 2008, the School recognized scholars whose research efforts contribute to advancing the understanding of or adoption of service-learning, with specific emphasis on K-12 education. Recipients were recognized as a John Glenn Scholar in Service-Learning and received a $1000 honorarium. Scholar selections are featured on this website and publicized on a national level with specific attention focused on papers submitted as part of the recognition process. The John Glenn School of Public Affairs used knowledge generated in Scholar papers to construct advisories accessible to practitioners, policy makers, funders, media, and the general public.
